OUR STORY

Growing a farm.
Building a life.

Prairie Rock Farms began in 1992 with two young farmers, a growing family and trust in God’s provision. Stan and Heidi both come from generations of faith-centred farming families, where caring for the land is a responsibility passed on.

In those early years, Stan worked as a mechanic, repairing vehicles in the evenings and at night to help support the farm. Heidi worked as a dental assistant. As their family grew, so did the opportunity to rent land and grow crops.

How the farm has changed

The farm once produced small square bales, shipping throughout Western Canada and as far as Texas. A few sheep became a flock of approximately 750 ewes through an accelerated lambing program.

At one point, the grain operation reached approximately 8,500 acres across 35 miles. Today’s operation is approximately 4,000 acres, with a smaller number of sheep, chickens and steers, and two large gardens.

OUR MISSION

To produce quality grain and forage from the land entrusted to our care through sustainable practices that enrich our soil and environment.

OUR VISION

To give each person the opportunity to experience the fruits of their own labour and the satisfaction of each new crop harvested with integrity and honour.

FARMING & CROPS

From seeding
to harvest.

Grain production is the heart of our operation. From seeding to harvest, our work follows the seasons and the needs of the land we farm.

STEWARDSHIP

Good farming
looks ahead.

We see farming as stewardship: caring for the land so future generations can enjoy the same opportunity. Practical experience and precision agriculture help us put that belief to work.

01

Start with the soil

Annual soil testing helps guide our decisions. We choose thoughtful crop rotations suited to our soil and Southern Alberta’s climate.

02

Make every pass count

GPS guidance and satellite imagery help reduce overlap and avoid overapplication of seed, fertilizer and crop inputs.

03

Choose inputs carefully

We use glyphosate minimally and select chemicals carefully, with attention to the needs of the crop and the land.

04

Farm for the long term

Responsible, profitable grain production supports the farm today and the opportunity to farm for generations to come.
